Alkira is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist, recently graduated from James Cook University with an academic award. Her interest in Exercise Physiology first began when she was 15 years old. When she witnessed the impact regular activity and a healthy lifestyle can have on the health and happiness of a person first hand while on work experience with Vision Australia.
Having completed a Pilates Level 1 Matwork and Level 1 Equipment course, as well as a Hydrotherapy course, Alkira is excited to utilise her skills and develop new ones in Clinical Pilates and Hydrotherapy to assist people in chronic pain management, and injury rehabilitation.
Alkira leads a healthy lifestyle, with a Border Collie, Zoe, who is her favourite exercise buddy. She grew up dancing from a young age and is also a book worm who loves reading novels.
Alkira explains that the most important part of being an Exercise Physiologist is in assisting a person to have a better understanding of their condition and to use individualised physical activity as a way to reduce its daily impact. She is eager to begin the next step of my career as an Exercise Physiologist with the Accident & Injury Physio Rehab Team.

Having graduated from James Cook University Townsville last year, Mitchell is one of the newer additions to the team here at A&I. Mitchell’s passion for physiotherapy began following many sport related injuries, which required intensive physiotherapy to allow him to play again. Following this, Mitchell decided to study physiotherapy in the hope to assist those who are injured returning to what they enjoy doing.
Mitchell’s clinical areas of interest are rehabilitation of sport and musculoskeletal injuries, post-op ACL rehab and ankle rehab. He plans on doing a dry-needing course in March. Prior to working as a physiotherapist, he had experience working in close relation with the Townsville army on courses, and understands how physically demanding day to day tasks can be.
