Five Components of Fitness

A & I Physio aims to help patients regain their normal lives. Our treatment programs and services focus on the following components:

  1. Cardiovascular Endurance
    This component provides a base for all fitness levels, as it reflects the ability of the heart to pump adequate amounts of oxygenated blood to working muscles. A decrease in cardiovascular endurance has detrimental effects on exercise and daily life performance.
  1. Muscular Strength
    This is the body’s ability to perform an exercise over a short period before feeling tired. It is important to a person’s athletic or daily activities.
  1. Muscular Endurance
    The muscles in the body need to be able to sustain a movement for an extended period. Athletes and the average individuals can achieve this through a variety of strength training exercises that involve low weight and high repetitions.
  1. Flexibility
    Often overlooked and regarded as unnecessary, flexibility is important in exercise physiology. It improves muscular function and mental health. Popular practices, such as Yoga and Pilates, have shown evidence of the benefits of flexibility.
  1. Body Composition
    This is the combination of the four principles or components. An individual with a developed cardiovascular system, muscular strength and endurance, balanced with flexibility, is more likely to have a higher muscle to fat ratio.
